Wild tiger and leopard populations in northeast China have seen steady growth, with more than 35 cubs born last year, the administration of Northeast China Tiger and Leopard National Park said Tuesday.
The administration monitored the birth of more than 20 Siberian tiger cubs and more than 15 Amur leopard cubs last year. Its operating area exceeds 1.1 million hectares, representing around 78% of the park’s total area.
Siberian tigers, also known as Amur tigers, live mainly in the Far East of Russia and northeastern China. As one of the world’s most endangered species, around 500 Siberian tigers are believed to be living in the wild.
