Philippine Ambassador to the Kingdom of Cambodia Maria Amelita C. Aquino received Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Kingdom of Cambodia Sok Chenda Sophea on October 5, 2023.
Ambassador Aquino thanked the Deputy Prime Minister for his warm welcome and time spent discussing the current state and future of Philippine-Cambodian relations.
Both sides highlighted the success of the bilateral meeting between President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. and Prime Minister Hun Manet on the sidelines of the 43rd ASEAN Summit in Jakarta.

The deputy prime minister expressed his desire to continue cooperation between the two countries, especially in areas such as agriculture, SME development and people-to-people exchanges. Ambassador Aquino agreed that these areas of cooperation are important for both the Philippines and Cambodia. Likewise, she expressed the importance of economic diplomacy for the Philippines.

The ambassador also expressed her gratitude for the hospitality of the Cambodian government and its people towards the Filipino community in Cambodia. She recalled how many Filipinos consider Cambodia her second home. Deputy Prime Minister Sok Chenda Sophea declared that Filipinos are very welcome in Cambodia, and offered the government’s help to protect and ensure their well-being away from home.
The conversations between both officials also focused on cooperation in defense, trade and investment, and tourism. Ambassador Aquino also highlighted the cooperation of both countries in regional and multilateral forums.
